My greatest marketing challenge

Self portrait taken for our adoption profile

We were told a lot of different things when we went through the process of adoption. In the end, I believe it was me sticking to some business instincts and leaning on those toolsets that ultimately helped us stand out for someone to choose us.

The truth is that everyone will tell you that you need to do it a certain way. The video should look and be done by this company. The images and book should feel like a scrapbook. Write a lot. Write a little. It is hard. And arguably will be your most important sell you ever make. Be honest, genuine, and put your best foot forward.

I was lucky enough to have taken quite a few family photographs. If you don’t have good family photos, go get a photographer to help you. Let them know the reason you need great photos. You might be surprised in that they will want to help you or at least give you a discount. But even if you have to spend $500-1,000, you are already spending typically at least $30,000, so don’t forget to invest in your story.

Below are the pages we ended up putting together. This is not to discredit what other families and people are doing. But more to encourage you to follow your instincts on how you want to be portrayed. I know for a fact that we were picked based off of the pictures, especially of our son.
